Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: I Keep Collecting

Stay off the porch!

Today's Theme:  A Mini You (I) Keep Collecting

Perfect for Halloween Time.

What do I keep collecting?

Halloween miniatures - skulls, pumpkins - and especially skeletons and skeleton dogs. Can't seem to resist them! ha! (Click photos for full size. See other pix/themes in left column archive list.)

There's a cute little painted skellie dog in front of the porch, too.

* Don't forget to check out the Halloween & Book-Related Book Nook List! *

And... I started another project. It's slow going as I really don't feel like painting, but I went to Michael's, found some cool Halloween minis half-off, and it gave me some ideas and inspiration. More details to come soon!

Skellie dog in a roombox.

 New skellie dog.

A favorite: Skellie dog by the Witch's Cottage.

Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: Black & White

Dining room in my half-scale Fairfield house

Today's Theme: Black & White

I did that color scheme quite a bit in the Fairfield house as I was designing around those two patterned scrapbook papers. I also happen to like that checkerboard paper a lot and have used it in several houses.

Here's the adjacent living room/parlor before it was furnished and other pix (at link). I really liked these papers and the color scheme. I also had only one sheet of that black textured paper and knew it would be perfect for flooring. I'd saved those interesting shaped beads for the fireplace.

Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: Fantasy or Realism

Today's Theme: Fantasy or Realism

I like both. I like to make rooms realistic but I also like the fantasy aspect when I do something magical or Halloween or fantasy themed. I did that in my half-scale Witch's Cottage when I had the skeleton spying out the window, or when I dressed this wizard and his dog a while back. And they're still waiting for their own place! (above.)

Kind of creepy, right?

Halloween, Book-themed Miniature Book Nooks & Kits

Ahoy, matey! Even an eerie pirate ship nook! See below.

I realized it's time for a new Halloween-themed Book Nook & Kit list!

This time I've searched out some fun new miniature books, kits, and Halloween-related book nooks. Wow, there are so many new ones! Now, c'mon, I know you don't have enough stuff to work on, so take a peek! Don't worry, I'll be doing a Christmas list later so be sure to check back. (Click the links to find out more! Click photos for full size.)

NOTE: I keep finding others, so any new additions are marked *. (I added a cool book-shaped nook under the library section below.)

Halloween - Spooky Kits - Book Nooks

My fave theme and these are soooooo tempting!

First, I admit that many of these are more like putting puzzles together and some of the flat things in these nooks drive me crazy. I prefer "real" 3D miniatures, but I will add actual pieces in when needed.

I've been doing that while working on the Wondyland Old Time Saloon Book Nook. I still love the style and I think it's improved. I'll share more on that later. I was actually going to put old-time photo figures in mine, too.

Speaking of different...

This is kind of cool! First one I've seen that has figures in it. Flat people and food but still unique and would be easily adaptable. It would be fun to put actual food and drinks on that table. ETKVR Dark's Tavern - The Ancient Bar. (There are other styles on this page, too.)

Kind of cute! Small Dinosaur Museum (Antreatu)

Spooky:

Bwaaahhh! Love the webbed window on this one and it has lots of spooky books inside! ETKVR Dark Family Book Nook.

Interesting Haunted House Book Nook/Dibetoy  - 3 colors LED lights.

Different IBOHEYE Haunted house in a book nook.

Eerie fifjoy Haunted Mansion

House of Magic Book Nook, H Potter style.

Magic Energy Station, Shylamb Store

Master's House Bookend Alley TOYQI Book Nook.

This isn't spooky, but a pirate ship scene is rather eerie! Arggh Matey! Vorathis Book Nook Pirate Kit.

Book Miniatures & Book-Related Book Nooks

Astrologer's room: fifijoy Starmap Secrets.

* Just found this: Cool! Actual book-shaped Classic Library/Nookmaster.

Interesting kit: Vorathis Global Library. All kinds of books and busts!

What's not to like? Books and a cat in the ETKVR Magic Cat Library Book Nook.

Twilight Bookstore, Shylamb Store

Fimeetoy Store Wizard room. More books!

*********

I like to make miniature books, but sometimes it's nice to have a good, already-made set of books to fill a shelf, too.

* Nice set: Skylety 24-piece book set, 1/12 scale

* Well, if you can't or don't want to make dollhouse books - plastic books but 300 piece Book Set. Good covers and only $9.99. They also have the bookshelf with the books, $13.99.

Make It in Mini:

These are addicting. ha! I'm hoping to get some of these for my Witch's Bakery (painting in progress), even if some are slightly larger than 1/12th scale. Love the Halloween themes!

MGA MiniVerse Make it Spooky Mini Food, 4 styles: cake, bug drinks, and dessert plus the rare Beetlejuice sandworm. (The bottom of the label should give an idea of what the item is. Look at the photo at the site.)

MGA MiniVerse Halloween (3 pack, these have really gone up in price, but will be looking for the cute pumpkins! The Halloween house and the monster drinks are cute, too.)

Very cute! MGA MiniVerse Harry Potter Honeydukes. All kinds of sweets to make,15 in the collection! (Those little cauldrons, the sugar skulls, and the skeletons are cute! And the frogs!)

 * Have fun looking and creating! *

Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: Wrong Room

Beware of the cook in the Haunted Van Buren dollhouse.

Today's Theme: In the Wrong Room

Is there even a wrong room in miniature?

Is this an older person question - what were you looking for and went to to the wrong room for it? Or didn't even remember what you were looking for in the first place? Or did you put it in that "special place" to keep it safe - and never found it again. That's a wrong room if I ever heard of one. ha! (*Click photos for full size.)

How do you answer this?

The only answer I have is if you go in this kitchen above, you are definitely in the wrong room! haa! Yikes! The cook was really mad here. Take a look at the painting. Someone must've complained about the food. She took care of that.

Here are more rooms in my half-scale Haunted Van Buren Dollhouse.

Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: Pets

 * Two canine friends in the sitting room in a wall-hung cabinet.

Today's Theme: Pets or People

Definitely a favorite theme. Being a dog lover, I have to put a dog in just about every project I've done. And people? Well, I confess: I love dolls, too. I know dolls in dollhouses are a love-hate thing for a lot of people. Some prefer to have a room look lived-in but like someone just left. Others, like me, don't mind a doll or miniature figure in there. (*Click photos for full size.)

Do you like pets in your dollhouse or miniature room? What kind?

Here are some of my favorite mini dogs: (I hope you're also looking at more photos of the projects at the links!)

* Lots of dog pals gathering for Halloween at the Lavender Cottage. The crowd keeps getting larger! That big dog in the center really thinks he's "top dog" doesn't he? haa!

I loved building and decorating this 3-story mansion. I split it up to have a diner in the first floor/lower level; the rich widow owner lives on the second floor and the chef lives on the third floor. Here's the beagle in the chef's sleeping room with a kitchenette. See more of the mansion and diner here. There's also another little dog in his favorite place on the roof.

There are also plenty more dogs of the Halloween variety to show. They'll be coming up soon!

Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: Time Travel

Today's Theme: Time Travel

This was one of those themes i thought, oh what to do? Then I decided to go "back in time" and show some miniatures I made eons ago!

I've always liked making miniature food and have a few favorites I've made.

This was one of the first miniature foods I made back in... 2008, not long after I started this blog. Yes, it's been that long!

i made the food as part of a challenge to replicate a cookbook cover in one of the miniature food groups.

I found this vintage cookbook at a thrift store and thought it was doable, thought I look at it now and think, wow that was quite a challenge. Why didn't I pick a book that had only one food on it. haa! But I think it turned out great!

Ah, but that's not all! I actually made the food twice - this time shrinking it smaller to make it closer to half-scale size. I remenber that was fun to do! Yes, a glutton for punishment. haa!

* Thanks to all the new and old visitors to the blog this month! I appreciate your stopping by! *

Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: Bright Idea

Today's Theme: Bright Idea

Above: Lit up Lavender Cottage

What's different about this house, you ask? Well, this was the first time we decided to use all and only LED lights and it worked out really well. (See post about the lights and transformer.)

We used those as the lights last longer, stay cooler, and are easy to use.

We still used electric tape wire on the house and I soldered the light wires directly to the electric tape. The nice thing is these lights have very thin wires. We bought loose bulbs in bulk that I used with light covers or beads (like the ceiling lights on the 2nd and third floors) and also bought pairs of coach-style and tulip-shaped lights on eBay. We also found a reasonably priced (at that time) multi-volt transformer that can be used as 3Volt (LED) up to 12 volt. We had to take off the adaptor and wire on a plug instead, but it works great. Easy solution!

Lights below, house in progress yet. Never thought I'd finish at that stage!

Mini A Day: MiniJoyMonth: Mixed Scale

The Christmas Campground

Today's Theme: Mixed Scale Madness

Not sure about the madness part.. ha!  I've mostly been working in half scale (lack of room) but  I'm not adverse to using different scale items in something if I like them and if they fit. If they look right, they go in. ha!

As half-scale can sometimes be very tiny, like the plants and pots can be so small, I often use pots and leaves that are more 1" scale as they're easier to work with and they look fine to me.

I think the best example of mixed scales I can give right now is the Christmas Campground me and my friend Gigi set up. Not too soon as Christmas stuff is already out in the stores!

Take a tour  - see more pix at the links: that picnic table is 1" scale; that tiny pink camper is a smaller than half-scale; my diner/camper at the left back is half scale. Here's more pix of my camper in progress. Chairs on the lot are various sizes. It all works!
