New Miniatures Food Book

For those who love to create realistic miniature food from polymer clay, French artisan Stephanie Kilgast of PetitPlat has released her first book, "Repas de Fete  - Party Food in Miniature"

The book contains instructions in English and French to make 21 party, holiday, and wedding foods as pictured on the cover. 120 pages; 24 euros + shipping. Order at link above. More photos are on the website.

This looks fun as there haven't been any different food books lately, and not for desserts and cakes.

Cookie Ziemba Miniatures Auction

  Collector Cookie Ziemba is having her vast and beautiful collection of collectible miniatures auctioned by Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago. The auction, "Miniatures from the Collection of Cookie Ziemba and the Estate of Eunice Gold" will also be online live at 12 pm (Central), Weds., July 23. 

You can view the collection online or see the incredible catalogue here.  The catalogue can also be downloaded in pdf format.

Miniatures Monday Garage Sale Finds

Summer is great as I find all kinds of things at garage sales and church rummage sales for a few bucks.

Boyd's Mini Bears, 3 1/2 inches high

This little tree is kind of cute, made of glittery garland it looks like. It's in a dome and is 6 1/2 inches high.-- and it was only $1!

Mini Half Scale Update - Books!

I think mat board is the greatest thing ever invented (well, maybe after the internet. ha!)

It's great stuff that cuts easily with a razor blade so anyone can make things. I've made small furniture out of it as it's sturdy and cheap. I was lucky to get a whole box of small pieces at a yard sale a while back.

I just made a pile of books with mat board inserts. Made it easy to fill them since you don't have to cut paper or card inside. Just paint the edges and voila! Done. I want to make some antique-looking books next. After all, all houses - even dollhouses - need lots of books!!!

Half Scale Dollhouse Update - It's Curtains!

Curtains are in!

Today's lesson learned - had to move the light I had positioned on the center ceiling in too close to the doorway when I realized it should be hanging over the staircase. 

Bedroom-sitting room curtains - I wanted an old-fashioned kind of print and like this even if it's slightly larger. I decided to do a flat cloth top trim.

Living room - I really like how these came out as the print has a 40s-50s feel to me.  I added little gold beads on the ends of toothpics for decoration.

Update Half Scale Country Dollhouse

Here's the front with all stone. I have a sun face to put in the center. The stone has to be fixed in some spots and lines filled in. It also has shutters and window boxes.

Starting stone on the house.  The front is finished and drying. Will add another pic later. (This looks terrible but it is looking better now.)

Sink and wall shelf in kitchen.The sink is a kit from Petite Properties in the UK. I also have a vintage stove kit to make. (She has some great kits made from mount card like mat board.)

Kitchen curtains. I wanted an older vintage feel to the room.

Just wanted to show the TV I found on ebay. It's 1 3/4 inches high and has a tiny magnet in back.

 I'm hoping to glue a TV show photo on the front.

Miniatures Monday - Half Scale House Trimmed!

Today:

First up - windows in!  Have to work on paper clay stone on front and stucco on sides next.

(Finally! I don't understand why some pix I can rotate offline and then when posted they are sideways. It does that on certain pix on Facebook, too. Found this site and it worked to rotate them again so they stay the right way when posted -LunaPic free online photo rotate)  

Well....  first floor - the kitchen. Love the floor and the green trim added something! Hanging wall cabinet next. Working on curtains. I have a cute leaf pattern that has an old-fashioned feel.

Second floor - combined room - bedroom left and sitting room on right. Added false door on back to attic.

The staircase railing is made from cutting blade parts from a wooden Chinese fan. The floor is individual wood strips I took out of an older dollhouse. Have to put the staircase in after I finish putting curtains on the bottom living room windows and putting door in. 

The attic partially shown below will be all wood. The lights are painted metal sconce-like beads from Michaels. The wood strips are from those old wood calendars. Just found another one with wider strips at the flea market for a dollar! 

Will put in the floor/ceiling next and then have to put the ceiling lights in before installing wood strips for the third floor. The attic area will be a kid's bedroom/playroom and a painting studio for the grandmother.

Miniatures Monday - Dollhouse Show!

Just got back from the Bishop Chicago International show over the weekend. Always lots to see and buy!

The most amazing exhibit was this replica of the Titanic staircase and lobby - the scale is 1:12 (1 inch= 1 foot).Amazing!

A few things I bought... 

Half Scale Dollhouse - Let there be light!

Made some more progress on the Half Scale Country House I've been working on. (See first set of photos.) I can't wait until I have a decent pic of some progress on the outside to show!

It's a great feeling when you can plug in the transformer for a test - and Let there be light!

The kitchen has a cute little hanging lamp and a wall light (I have to put the shade back on.) Put some tile on the wall where the sink will go also. The floor is scrapbook paper.

There's a hanging lamp and a little old-fashioned bulb in the living room ceiling. I may add a lit candle on the fireplace yet since there are holes for one. (I also put some new brick paper in the fireplace as the old stuff was faded and added a brick insert to the floor in front.)

(Okay a funny admission - first time I bought lights that had the replaceable, push-in bulbs included in a tiny bag attached to the plug cord. Well, I cut off the plug in the living room lamp, not realizing this, and had the light soldered in. Hmmm, no light. Oops! Luckily, I didn't throw the plug out with the light bulbs still attached!)

This boring pic is the wall light above the door that will be inside the shed. I put a small globe from one of those Christmas post light sets over a bulb. Next I have to stucco this wall before I glue the shed walls on.

Now that the first floor lights are soldered onto the floor, I can paper the second floor and do the flooring. I have to enclose the staircase opening and add a fake door in back leading to the third floor. With the problems I had building (and rebuilding and rebuilding) the staircase, I don't want to do it again!

Neat thing I found at Michael's- these metal findings look like shades! I'm going to add them on the two side walls in the attic and on the back wall as sconces...
