#Halloween in #Miniature 2020-2: The Cemetery!

Welcome to HALLOWEEN IN MINIATURE 2020! Day 2

👀 Start here  at Day 1  -https://candidcanine.blogspot.com/2020/09/halloween-in-miniature-2020-start-party.html

Today, author Leta Hawk shares a short cemetery tale based on a real-life Halloween dare in...

The Phantom Caretaker

(Cemetery building: Angela Potts) - Click photos for full size

The streetlights had just come on as I crossed Race Street and headed for the path that led into Oak Hill Cemetery.  I could hear my sister Linda and my cousin Gina giggling as they watched me slowly make my way toward the rows of tombstones.

(Tombstones: Meredith Paige)

“Me and my big mouth,” I muttered as my eyes adjusted to the deepening shadows.  I wouldn’t be in a graveyard at twilight the night before Halloween if I hadn’t been scoffing while Linda and Gina told ghost stories.  And I really should have kept my mouth shut when Gina told the story about the Phantom Caretaker who grabbed anyone foolish enough to touch the oak tree in the center of the graveyard after dark.  “There’s no Phantom Caretaker,” I snorted.  “That’s just a story.”  Truth was, I had heard that story before, and I was trying to convince myself it wasn’t true.

“Well, if it’s not true, Deb, then prove it!” Gina challenged with a smirk.

“Yeah, Deb,” Linda taunted. “I dare you to go to the cemetery after dark tonight and prove it.”

(Tombstone: Meredith Paige)

I couldn’t talk my way out of it without admitting I really did believe in the Phantom Caretaker, so there I was in the deepening twilight, trudging up the winding path that led to the oak tree in the middle of the cemetery where the Phantom Caretaker lurked.

(Cemetery, Debra Hinton's

When I reached the tree, I was supposed to signal Linda and Gina with the flashlight I carried in my pocket. I wanted to turn it on to give me some light, but I didn’t want to betray my presence to anyone or anything else that might be creeping through the cemetery.

The breeze hissed eerily through the grass, and the headlights from passing cars made spooky patterns on the tombstones as I rounded the last curve in the path. The oak tree was only about fifty feet in front of me. I pulled the flashlight out of my pocket so that when I reached the tree I could signal Linda and Gina and get out of there. In my haste, I lost my grip on it, and despite my wild grasping, my only source of light clattered to the sidewalk in pieces.

Just then, a piercing screech came from within the oak tree. Next, I saw a dark, winged creature diving towards me.

As I ducked and screamed, I heard a deep voice shout, “Who’s there?”

In my panic, I yelled, “The Phantom Caretaker!” and took off down the path.

Footsteps pounded loudly behind me, coming closer and closer. I ran faster, faster, but not fast enough—a hand grabbed the back of my shirt and jerked me to a stop.

By the time my punishment ended a week later, the whole town had heard about Linda and Gina’s dare, my Halloween trek into Oak Hill Cemetery after dark, and my encounter with the Phantom Caretaker—who had turned out to be Officer Hoke.

#Halloween in #Miniature 2020: Start the Party! Spooky Dollhouse Foods

Welcome to this year's HALLOWEEN IN MINIATURE.

Let's start the party!! This year, I'm including
something different - a fun selection of Halloween stories by other authors, along with the Halloween minis, so be sure to stop by each day!

First our untiring hostess Mrs. Skellie is going to serve up a selection of tasty, (er, never mind the look of some!) Halloween foods and drinks to whet your appetite. Then we'll commence our tour!

Cook Esmeralda... (yeah we had to fire the other one from last year, too many fingers in the food... Heh-heh. Uh-oh! Looks like the new cook's found the 4 and 20 blackbirds...Maybe we better skip that pie

Anyway, Cook has whipped up an assortment of delectables so I hope you didn't leave your appetite at home!

So, eat and drink for tomorrow... oh sorry, that's another story.

Tomorrow, we'll open the library for some spooky Halloween stories and Halloween miniatures so be sure to return! -- Christine Verstraete

👻 Go to Day 2's Halloween story (Link not active until day of post.)

First off, let's have a drink shall we? Matilda (we demoted her to waitress but she doesn't seem to mind. Mrs. Skellie has to to keep an eye on her (well, that's where it went!) for sampling the guests' food.) You can't miss with the house wine. It has a kick to it, I hear. (C. Verstraete)

"Cook? Eh, the woman is deaf... I'll take a peek and see what she's cooking. Oh, shhh! Looks like something's in progress. We better let her be!" (Creepy food, Patricia Paul)

"Besides, you know how cooks can get testy. You don't want to know what happened to the last guest...  haaa! Hey, something smells good... Oh, she's got stew on the stove! Mmm!"  (From My Craft Crypt on Etsy)

"Eat up, then we can have some dessert and there's some good stuff that's to die for! I'd say nothing's better than some fresh pumpkin pie, don't you agree?" (The Dainty House on Etsy)

"Or how about a delicious cheesecake? This looks ready to eat! (From Ana Christina Novo - Tiny Delights on Etsy.)

For those with a sweet tooth, we've got a cute selection of Halloween cakes on Ebay from Thailand.

Gotta be something here that'll grab ya, right? haa! (New Octopus, Patricia Paul)

Update: #Miniature Projects, For the Record... LPs

For the record (get the pun? ha!) ... Yes, I've been slooowly working on things. I keep going between several projects but am making some progress.

Here's a peek at the miniature record table as I'm organizing it. Thinking of putting some dividers in and alphabetic labels...  (Click photos for full size.)

The room itself is getting there, too. Have to glue other wall in yet and figuring what lights to add. I changed some things around, too, to make it a gift shop as well. I decided I really don't want to make hundreds more record albums. haa! I think these plus some in a bookcase will be plenty. Stay tuned for more updates!

And a few records for fun. Gotta have that magazine, too! Remember those?

He stopped by the miniature kitchen looking for some coffee!

* See day 3 post

Today's mini: I'll leave you to guess what plant this is. (For the record store.)

#Miniatures 7 Days of Creativity 2

A sneak peek at a couple more of my projects... I'm slowly, very sloooowly working on getting some older projects done now. The record store is still in progress... very close! It may change to a record and gift store though, You know how that goes...

7 Days of Creativity:

* See the first post.

Day 4, Today's Mini: Dress form

Was pretty happy how this came out. I painted the plastic dress form (Chrysnbon?) and glued the material to make the layered dress. The waist gathering was sewn. I added a dowel and base since I lost the original one. This is in the Ladies Shop in the cabinet. Here's a recent photo:

#Miniatures 7 Days of Creativity

For fun, I'm sharing various projects as part of Seven Days of Creativity on Facebook. If you're not a friend there, (see my FB page), I'll repost the projects here as well.

Since I'm behind here, I'll share yesterday's as well to get caught up.

Day 1:  The chair is in my Half Scale Country House. (I made the chair from a Cassidy Creations kit. The dog was from a past swap.)

Today:
My friend Kitty made the kid dolls and the tiny bead dolls on the shelf. The books are from Lee Ann Borgia.

#Miniature Finds: Or I needed another project, right?

Haaa! Oh, the projects I have to do yet... but, when you find something...

Finally got out and did a little shopping, and found these great items. I almost didn't buy it but the cabinet was so unique and so was the resin/plaster fireplace.  (Aren't they wonderful??) Also got a beautiful paper tile floor in a rose color...

So a library scene will be in the works soon. I knew I was making a lot of miniature books for a reason!! Also found a cool plastic drop chandelier that's in layers, different than the usual ones, so we'll see if that works...  Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for updates!

(And yes... the Ladies Shoppe cabinet is about done now. Got the front plastic in the doors and the shelf inside... Trying to find some battery lights that will light it enough. The kitchen is about done, too. Made a garbage container for under the sink and some newspapers for on top of the fridge. It's the little details! Pix coming!)
